TANGZU YuXuanJi TPLX Review – Chinese Elegance for $50? (One of the Best-Looking Mid-Budget IEMs)
Overall Score: 8.3 / 10
Tangzu has done it again. After the successful Wan’er, Zetian Wu, and other models, they’ve released the YuXuanJi TPLX – a premium-looking IEM featuring a 10mm Topology Dynamic Driver and tuning collaboration with Dethonray.
Design & Build Quality (9.5/10)
The shells are made of high-density zinc alloy with CNC machining and a glossy finish with elegant rose-gold accents. It looks and feels like an IEM worth $150–200. The semi-open-back design gives it a sophisticated, artistic touch inspired by Chinese poetry.
Extremely comfortable for long listening sessions
Average isolation (expected from a semi-open design)
Detachable OFC silver-plated cable (0.78mm 2-Pin) – decent but most users will upgrade
Comes with Tang Sancai eartips (very good quality)
It genuinely looks like a piece of art. One of the best-designed IEMs under $100.
Sound Performance
Overall Signature: Neutral with a bright tilt / light V-shape.
Bass (7.5/10): Moderate quantity, more neutral-warm than bass-heavy. Excellent texture and speed with good control. Sub-bass has a light boost but it doesn’t overwhelm. Not ideal for bassheads, but versatile for most genres.
Mids (8.5/10): Vocals are clear, forward, and natural. Both male and female voices sound pleasant with a sweet character. Occasionally they can feel a bit thin and lacking in body.
Treble (7.5/10): Detailed and airy, with a peak around 8kHz that can introduce some sibilance on certain tracks (especially with silicone tips). Can become fatiguing at higher volumes with bright music.
Soundstage & Technicalities: Surprisingly good for the price. Precise imaging, decent separation, and a wider soundstage than most closed IEMs thanks to the semi-open design. Not competing with $150+ IEMs, but clearly above average in this budget.
Recommended Genres: Pop, vocal, acoustic, rock, jazz, classical, and anime music. Less ideal for heavy EDM or bass-dominant electronic music unless you use EQ.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
Exceptional design and build quality (best in class at this price)
Very good clarity and detail
Pleasant vocals
Low distortion from the TPLX driver
Outstanding value for money
Cons:
Can show sibilance (depends on tips and source)
Bass may feel too light for bass lovers
Occasional lack of control in the lower treble on busy tracks
Stock cable is average
Who is it for?
If you want a beautiful, clear, and vocal-focused IEM without bloated bass, the YuXuanJi TPLX is an excellent choice around $50. It makes a great daily driver, especially if you listen to vocal-centric or cleaner music.
Bassheads or those who prefer a warmer, more relaxed sound should look elsewhere.
Final Verdict:
Strongly Recommended if you like the looks and this bright-neutral tuning. At this price, it’s a fantastic deal. Tangzu continues to raise the bar in the budget segment.
